Taverna History
The building was the first residence of the Simos family in Sotira. It was built in 1920, mainly from debris, soil and rocks. There were four rooms, two of which were used for animals. The family, with 7 children, used the other rooms as living quarters. Simos, who was known to all in the village as ‘Old Simos’, died in 1993, while his wife, Andrianou, died in 1986.
The building was originally opened in 1996 as a cafeteria. In recent years it has become a taverna, providing authentic local cuisine, including meze. The building is still owned by the Simos family, now by Simos’ grandson, who also carries the name Simos. A tradition of dedication to service and quality traditional cuisine was established early and continues to this day.
